The House System

Filed under Astrology Intro Topics on June 1, 2015

If the Zodiac ring represents the celestial layer of the chart, then the house system is the terrestrial layer where celestial events actually land in our lives. The house system is broken up into twelve houses with the first house beginning at the 9 o’clock mark.

From a geographical perspective, the chart wheel is oriented upside down, where the Sun moves right to left or East to West as it passes over the chart. The top half of the chart contain the daylight hours and the bottom half, the nighttime hours. The first house cusp, or most Eastern point in the chart, is often referred to the Ascendant or Rising. As each minute goes by the zodiac ring moves from East to West as if it were pinned to the Sun and pulled along the sky.
