Solar Fire

So all of this information is good and well, but eventually you have to start playing around with all of this yourself. Unfortunately, there is a lack of quality astrology software out there. Particularly if you are on a Mac like me. It’s frustrating because if there were a Mac astrology program, it would be the best and most beautiful. In my humble opinion, the best astrology program right now is Solar Fire Gold for PC. I actually have a complicated set up on my Mac to run Solar Fire in a virtual Windows environment, but I don’t necessarily recommend it for everyone.
Here are some resources to look into
- Solar Fire — Many people are familiar with their site because they offer free chart readings. However, be cautious of those readings because they are not based on traditional astrology principles. They are based on the modern, distorted “Sun Sign” astrology that has no traditional merit whatsoever. Also, please excuse their website design. I find it very unintuitive and distracting. They sell Solar Fire for $360, definitely worth the money. You can calculate all sorts of crazy things that would take days to do by hand. I will be releasing Solar Fire guides soon, so get your copy and stay tuned.
- Delphic Oracle — This is super advanced Hellenistic Astrology software. You can calculate Time Lords, Dodecatamory, Firdariyyah, etc. I highly recommend this software if you’re getting serious. It’s fairly expensive at $299, but I promise you if you use it to do Time Lord calculation alone it will save you days of time.
- AstroGold — This little gem is made by the same software engineers that develop Solar Fire. I’ve been looking for ages for a mobile app that has the same fine-tuned accuracy as Solar Fire. AstroGold is an iOS app for iPhone and iPad that can calculate and save natal charts as well as cast progressed, profected, and return charts. Overall, pretty amazing little thing. For $29, it’s a steal.
- Parallels — If you’re a closet nerd like me and want to get your Mac set up with a virtual machine, Parallels is what you’re looking for. You just need a copy of Windows and you can set the whole thing up in a couple of hours. It’s so worth it. I open Solar Fire just like it was a normal Mac app and I can hardly tell the difference. Best investment yet.
- IO Edition — So there actually is a Mac astrology program and it is pretty nice looking, but it lacks some important features that I use on a regular basis. However, priced at $195 it’s cheaper than Solar Fire and a great investment for any beginner astrologer.
